The women established aware- ness programmes: visiting patients with volunteer nurses and social workers, giving short talks on infectious diseases, hygiene, diabetes and common illnesses. They also lent support to the home health care centre at King Khaled National Guards Hospital. “This was the first joint effort between a Government hospital and a charitable organisation.” Mrs. Al Zuhair is convinced that, as a result of her group’s intervention, hundreds of patients and their families benefit socially, emotionally and medically from the Foundation’s efforts. As the Foundation developed, the volunteers hired employees to continue the procedures and guidelines established by the Board of Directors by delivering high quality service monitored through a system of continuous checks and balances.
